Fundraising

Charter schools, like all public schools in California, receive funds from the State of California based on average daily attendance. The formula presently being used by the state to fund schools does not cover our needs for basic expenses, including salaries, facilities, and supplies. Parents are required to work in fundraising to fill in the gaps so that we don't have to cut vital programs from our curriculum. Linscott's community believes in a well-rounded curriculum, and we fundraise to support programs such as PE, music, and theater.

We fulfill our fundraising needs in a variety of ways. We offer events for the community to support our school, including our yearly fall event and the spring Apple Blossom Run. Our parents and the community can also help by taking part in our in-school fundraising. Everyone can help by donating items on our wishlist. The Linscott Parent Donation Drive is a parent-led initiative to fundraise for the school. We welcome cash donations anytime. Our Cougar Club is a group of parents dedicated to ensuring the best possible educational experience for our children.

Community Fundraising

Our school's supporters join together to offset the deficit between our school's need to offer a full educational program and the state funds available. We hold two yearly fundraising events, one event in the fall and our Apple Blossom Run in the spring.

In appreciation we promote donor businesses in our newsletter, in our website's Business Directory, on our Apple Blossom Run t-shirts, and in the auction program. Donors receive a letter of recognition of their donation for tax purposes.

Parents: If you need a receipt to prove your donation of goods and services for tax purposes, you can download this PDF file. Fill it out and bring it to the office for a signature.

Fundraiser Tip for April:It's looking like spring, and what better way to enjoy one of the bounties of Watsonville than with a run/walk through blossoming apple trees. Get your running shoes ready, or find a friend or relative who likes to run, and have them come join in the fun of our 14th Annual Apple Blossom Run on May 2, 2010. For more information on how you can register, volunteer, or become a sponsor for this event, contact Karen Lowell at kejjinafrica@yahoo.com.

Note that you have to re-enroll some cards yearly, so put a reminder on your calendar.

Staples Rewards

While you're out shopping for school supplies, if you give Linscott's Staples rewards number: 831-728-6301 (Linscott's phone number), our school gets cash back. Also, for every ink cartridge Linscott turns in to Staples, we get $3. Please turn in all ink cartridges to the Linscott main office for processing.

Boxtops and Labels

Earn easy money for the school by collecting Labels for Education. A drop off box for your labels and boxtops is located above the parent mailboxes. You can also sign up on their website at http://www.boxtops4education.com/ to shop online or apply for a credit card that donates 1% of your purchases to Linscott School. For a list of participating products, go to http://www.boxtops4education.com/clip/ and click "see all participating providers" at the bottom of the page. Or download this guide which will explain what you can clip and save for our school.
Put box tops in ziploc bags and return to Aly Kurz's box in the staff lounge.

Save your labels to join in on Campbell's Labels for Education. Chances are, you have eligible products in your kitchen right now -- such as Campbell's soup, Prego pasta sauce, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers, or V8 beverages.

Teaming up with Cartridges For Kids will help keep these items out of the landfills and generate funds for our school. Please put the following used items in the box near our front entrance:

  • Laser and inkjet printer cartridges
  • Fax and copy machine toner cartridges
  • Laptops with power cords
  • PDAs with power cords and stylus
  • Cellphones

Linscott Parent Donation Drive

Linscott depends on tax-deductible donations. For more information, see our Linscott Parent Donation Drive. Parents of alumni and community members are also encouraged to donate. Supporting businesses will be listed in our Business Directory.

Wishlist

Like all public schools, Linscott's funding has been decreasing in recent years. We have to make up the money we need for basic operations through community donations. Although we appreciate cash donations and the support of our fundraisers, giving equipment and supplies is a great way to support the school as well. Teachers and staff, please contact the webmaster if you'd like to add to this list.

Please contact Sandra if you have something to donate.

Recurring needs

Modern computer hardware (please contact our network administrator before you leave anything in the library!)

Classroom supplies: paper, pens, pencils, scissors, glue, tape...
