Purpose

Cougar Club Mission Statement:

The Cougar Club is a group of Linscott Charter School parents dedicated to ensuring the best possible educational experience for our children. Towards this goal, the Cougar Club provides an open forum for the Linscott community to present their fundraising ideas and decide by consensus the most viable. The club provides infrastructure to maximize results in the most painless manner possible -- while maintaining a proactive and humor-rich approach.

Cougar Club Vision:

To enjoy extremely successful fundraisers supported by the entire Linscott Community that are sustainable year after year.

Leadership Roles

The following is a description of the "positions" for the Cougar Club (CC). The purpose for creating these positions is to:

  • help the CC function and communicate effectively,
  • define roles and procedures,
  • decrease duplication of efforts, and
  • provide vision and direction for the dedicated group of parents who are willing to donate their time.

These titles are whimsical on purpose -- to introduce a lighthearted and humorous spirit to this otherwise important and organized effort.

Grand Poobah

The Grand Poobah should lead the club toward a shared and strategic vision for its goal: to raise money for Linscott Charter School. The Grand Poobah chairs meetings, sets the agenda, and calls on speakers. S/he will check-in with other position-holders when necessary to verify that responsibilities are being carried out satisfactorily. The Grand Poobah shall provide the Chief Cheerleader with an agenda for each scheduled meeting for distribution to members of the club. In the Grand Poobah's absence, the School Ambassador or Chief Cheerleader shall perform the duties of the Grand Poobah. In absence of a School Ambassador, the Grand Poobah will attend to the Ambassador's duties.

School Ambassador

The School Ambassador attends SMT meetings and meets with the school administrator as needed to report on the progress of the CC. S/he also serves as the primary point person for the Project Head Honchos when questions like "Who do I talk to about this?" or "What is the procedure for this?" arise. The School Ambassador also communicates facility needs of CC to school personnel, explains administrative processes for the school, and other such details or logistics that involve members of SMT or the school administrator.

Chief Cheerleader

The Chief Cheerleader is responsible for communicating the progress, needs, and actions of the CC to the larger Linscott Charter School community. S/he recruits and organizes the "Room Rah-Rahs" and ensures they carry out their important tasks. The Chief Cheerleader is also responsible for facilitating communication within the CC, including organizing meeting materials and maintaining contact information for active members

Super Scribe

The Scribe shall take minutes at scheduled and publicized meetings of the CC. The minutes of meetings shall include the time and place of the meeting, the names of persons present, a summary of topics discussed and conversations in general, and a record of actions decided upon and the persons responsible for those actions. The Scribe shall submit the minutes in a timely manner to the Chief Cheerleader for distribution to the other members of the CC and the parents of Linscott Charter School.

Project Head Honchos

For each fundraising project, a Project Head Honcho will lead the charge and (if appropriate and necessary), supervise committee members and volunteers. The Project Head Honchos should -- after obtaining approval from the school director -- send all flyers, volunteer signups sheets, letters to parents, and other communications to the Chief Cheerleader for distribution to the school community. The Project Head Honcho should report on the progress of the fundraiser at scheduled CC meetings, or send a representative if unable to attend.

Room Rah-Rahs

The sole role of the Room Rah-Rahs is to pass on information about the CC and its projects to the parents of their assigned classrooms, as directed by the Chief Cheerleader. This involves forwarding emails from the Chief Cheerleader, copying flyers and inserting them in parent boxes (especially for those who do not have email access), or (in rare cases) making phone calls. As needed, Rah-Rahs will provide updates of fundraisers at monthly classroom parent meetings.

Uber Nerd

Technically savvy, the Uber Nerd will assist the Chief Cheerleader in creating online "centers" for communication and file sharing. The online "centers" will be open for viewing to all members of the Linscott community, but will have some safeguards in place for posting information.
