Parent/Teacher Communication Outline

If you have questions or concerns related to the classroom, the following procedure will be followed to facilitate communications, and ensure that all are fairly heard:

  • If the question or concern pertains to the whole class, bring it to seminar for discussion. Check with the teacher ahead of time to make sure that is the appropriate time and place for discussion.
  • If the question or concern is personal, relating either to your own child, yourself or the teacher, ask for a time to talk with the teacher privately.
  • If your questions or concerns are not effectively dealt with by the teacher, put your concerns in writing, addressed to the teacher. Be specific and proactive: What would you like to see happen?
  • If you do not get a written response within one week, or if you continue to be dissatisfied with the outcome, schedule an appointment with the Administrative Director. Bring a copy of your written communication and the teacher response if there is one. The AD will meet with the teacher, then facilitate a meeting between you and the teacher. The AD will document the outcome/agreements in writing for both the parent and teacher.
  • If you are still not satisfied, you may appeal to the SMT in writing. You may be asked to appear in closed session to discuss the concern and process for dealing with it. The SMT will be the final arbiter of any issues.
